London Adventures

Yesterday was a LONG day! We started out early by heading straight for Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guards. We stood at the gates for about nearly two hours before the ceremony began. But it was worth it, at least to me. We got to see the soldiers in their red coats and bearskin hats – so cool! The odd thing about it was, the soldier band played a medley of songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, and Phantom of the Opera. What was that about?!?!

After the changing of the guards, we headed to see the typical London sights – Big Ben, Parliament, and Westminster Abbey. We didn’t go in the Abbey, because time was getting away from us and the weather was FINALLY sunny and a little warmer – we froze this morning at the palace.

After that we took a flight on the London Eye, the enormous 450-foot ferris wheel on the bank of the Thames River. It took half an hour to make a full rotation, and it was incredible. It was very sunny by then, blue skies and everything, and we could see for many miles. Definitely a unique experience and one that I would recommend to London visitors.

Finally, after a brief jaunt to Trafalgar Square to see the lion statues and the fountains, Mom and Papa were ready to call it an early evening. I wasn’t ready to go home – it wasn’t nearly dark yet – so Dad, Ben and I walked around a few more sights and did a little shopping (okay, that was just me) before returning to the hotel. We have one more long day today before heading home. It should be a good one.

Wish I was there. We stayed in the hotel right behind the London Eye. You really need to go inside Westminster Abbey. It was truly amazing. So much to see, so little time!

Looks awesome!!! I wish I was there to explore with you. I guess pictures and stories will have to suffice. Happy Easter - is your family still going to be there?
