Dubai, Part 3 - Camels

While we were out on the sand dunes, we saw a couple of wild camels wandering in the desert. I didn't even know there were wild camels still.

After we finished dune-bashing, our caravan of SUV's headed toward the camp for a Lebanese barbeque. Along the way, we stopped at a camel farm, where probably 30 or 40 camels were surrounding the feeding troughs and eating. In the next pen over, veterinarians were vaccinating the baby camels, which were screaming at the top of their lungs as the men grabbed their tails and gave them their shots. All the other babies were also screaming in sympathy. I've never heard such a racket! We were allowed to walk in the main pen with the adult camels, most of which ignored both the babies and us humans in favor of finishing their dinner. It was so cool to see that many camels in one place, and up close. Check out the face on the middle camel in this first picture!

After leaving the camel farm, we made it to the camp where we had the chance to actually RIDE a camel! So cool! It wasn't a very long ride, only about 5 minutes, but it was still incredible! The only part that was uncomfortable was when the camel sat down to let us off. He kneeled his front legs first, so I was leaning forward toward the desert floor. But he quickly lowered his back legs, and all was right again. I will never forget this chance to ride a camel!

This is incredible. What a fun adventure. Fort Worth is going to seem pretty boring after this.
